For an individual to be out on bond, it means that they have a case pending but they are not incarcerated while awaiting trial.

When a person is arrested a magistrate judge normally sets the amount of bond required for the person’s release.

Once that person posts the bond, or has the bond posted on their behalf by a bail bond company, then the person is release.

Their case, however, is still pending until the case has a final resolution, whether that be by a trial, plea bargain, or dismissal.

Posting the bond and getting released does not mean that the case is over, but merely that the person will be remain in custody while the case is pending.
